PP – Polypropylene
Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most widely used thermoplastics globally. It stands out for its low density, very good chemical resistance, easy processing, and excellent price-performance ratio. It is used in the automotive industry, packaging industry, electrical engineering, and consumer goods.
Advantages
- Very low density
- Low cost
- Excellent chemical resistance
- Low water absorption
- Good fatigue strength (living hinges)
- Good electrical insulation
- Good weldability
- Easy injection molding
- Good water resistance
- Recyclable
Disadvantages
- Low UV resistance without stabilization
- Poorer toughness at low temperatures
- Lower strength than engineering plastics (PA, POM)
- Poorer paintability
- Higher thermal expansion
